Cadillac Racing's Alex Lynn: “Spa… it’s a glorious place!”
In just over one week’s time, the FIA WEC will travel to Belgium for round three of the 2024 season – the TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (10-11 May).
Famed for its fast-flowing corners and elevation change including legendary sections of the track such as Eau Rouge and Raidillon, Spa-Francorchamps is one circuit that favours the brave. An added challenge here is the ever-changing weather conditions which in recent years has seen WEC drivers contend with sun, rain, hail and even snow – all in one race!
“Spa is an amazing racetrack and so historic. The WEC races there always turn out to be dramatic,” explains Cadillac Racing’s Alex Lynn. “The circuit itself is a glorious place. I’ve had a lot of success there in my career, so I always really looking forward to going there. We tested there a few weeks ago, which was productive – in fact, any test days you get around Spa are valuable. I’m looking forward to myself and Earl tackling this great race and certainly the next two races are going to be exciting.”
Lynn’s team-mate Earl Bamber added: “I’m really looking forward to Spa - it’s one of my favourite tracks in Europe and I’ve spent a lot of time there. I won one of my first big races in Europe there in Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup, so I really looking forward to going back there especially with this Cadillac. I think we’re making strides as a team. We’ve got the true test at Spa and is the closest representation with the downforce level ahead of Le Mans.”
Spa-Francorchamps has been a regular on the WEC calendar since the championship’s inception back in 2012, and so far in the Hypercar era Toyota Gazoo Racing have remained unbeaten at this legendary circuit. However, with a total of 19 Hypercars (and 18 LMGT3 entries) for this year’s race, could Toyota’s winning streak at Spa be finally broken? We don’t have long to find out!
